The Durham Bulls' history began in 1902 as the Durham Tobacconists and they were later renamed the Durham Bulls after the famous Bull Durham tobacco brand. The team has played in several leagues, including the Piedmont League and the Carolina League, and was famously brought back to Durham by Miles Wolff in 1980. Their national recognition grew after the 1988 release of the movie Bull Durham, which was filmed at their historic ballpark, the Durham Athletic Park.
