Risaku Suzuki, Between the Sea and Mountains, signed

The theme of "Between the Sea and the Mountain" lies in capturing the landscape before mythology. Starting from the sea, the journey along the Kumano Kodo, which was shaped over a long period of time by the interactions between nature and human activities, leading into the mountains, is documented. In today's society flooded with photos taken with digital cameras and smartphones, the act of looking at photographs often becomes a chase for information, making it difficult to have visual experiences that evoke surprise. This situation has forced Suzuki to become more conscious of the medium of photography. Suzuki takes a method that invites fluctuations from the outside by reacting to light, wind, and sound and pressing the shutter, wanting to capture the original landscapes that prehistoric humans who once found mythical scenes in Kumano saw with their own eyes, where humans read and assign meaning to objects through their brains.
